All Natural, All The Time: Why We Say No to Poly

Here’s something most people don’t know, and most of the market won’t tell you: you can make fleece that’s 100% cotton.

Walk into any store and nearly every sweatshirt you touch is a cotton-poly blend. It’s so common that most people assume fleece must have poly in it. It doesn’t. The catch is that 100% cotton usually shows up as french terry, that looped knit you’ve seen on the inside of a lighter sweatshirt, not the soft, lofty, brushed fleece you actually want to live in.

But that loop can be cut and brushed into true fleece. Cotton, polyester, or the most popular cotton/poly blend, they all start the same way. The difference is what it takes to do it in all-natural cotton and do it right.

Poly blends exist because they’re easier and cheaper to run, the plastic fiber adds strength and shortcuts the process.
